TEMPORARY URBANISM

Strategies for the temporary use of vacant lots.

Public space defines how we interact in society. A public good is public because of its purpose and use and should facilitate the development of activities that are carried out within a variety of environments, natural or built, with the aim of satisfying collective needs.

The aim of this proposal is to introduce TEMPORARY USE as an alternative strategy that can enable the capacities of a built city and the active use of its urban spaces. Taking full advantage of the city we already have.

TEMPORARY USE through ephemeral and provisional occupations of these spaces: empty lots, abandoned or just a temporary pause from one building to another, making them available to citizens. Spaces that are truly public, serving the community, without mortgaging or diluting the final uses to be realized.

It is a tactical way to intervene in the city to transform, improve, or reinterpret spaces that includes time as a variable and the real needs of people, everyday urbanism. The projects may disappear, but the spaces will never be the same.
