Jane's Walk 2.018

Urban Walk as part of "Jane's Walk”, an annual festival of free, citizen-led walking conversations inspired by Jane Jacobs

May/2.018

1319.TreceDiecinueve in partnership with the Tucumán Women's Observatory.

We walked through a suburban neighborhood (Barrio Oeste II) with a group of women.

An urban diagnosis from a gender perspective was the starting point for the search for improvements in the neighborhood.

We met strong women, struggling mothers, hoping to change their environment for a better life for themselves and their families.

A walk that empowered them and allowed them to recognize situations that had been naturalized as something normal.

In the second walk, the problematic situations and spaces were marked and signposted to express the shared perceptions.
This process was turned into an action: signs with the names of the streets in the neighborhood.

On the first weekend of May each year, Jane's Walk festivals take place in hundreds of cities around the world. Jane's Walks encourage people to share stories about their neighborhoods, discover unseen features of their communities, and use walking as a way to connect with their neighbors.
