Verónica Mansilla

I was born in San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina.

I'm an Architect who graduated from the National University of Tucumán in 2003.

From 2005-2008 I lived in Barcelona, where I obtained a Master's in Design and Public Space at ELISAVA - Escola Superior de Disenny. This allowed me to consolidate and gain experience in topics that interest me, such as public space, art, and broad public participation.

Several years ago, I dedicated my professional interests to researching and experimenting strategies for the temporary use of public space as an instrument of urban management. Where the boundaries between architecture, art, design, and social intervention all come together to create more opportunities to strengthen public space as a social space.

In 2006, with some colleagues from the master's program, we founded the collective DeLaCalle. The final thesis was our first project, DeLaCalle FC. Later that year we were selected as part of Idensitat.07: "DeLaCalle Manresa", which culminated in an inland city in Catalonia.

In 2008, I returned to my hometown. I co-founded 1319.TreceDiecinueve, a project lab focused on achieving Inclusive Cities.

Currently, I'm living in Boston and making more dreams come true...

In Barcelona, I've worked at the architecture firm of Enric Rovira-Beleta, an accessibility specialist, and at the architecture school of Cloud9 architect Enric Ruiz-Geli.  While working at Cloud9, I was part of the design team for the Edificio MediaTIC project, which won several international awards, including World Building of the Year 2011.

In Boston, I work at KMA, a firm specializing in universal design and accessibility planning.

As a public space activist and advocate for inclusive cities, my work focuses on combining issues such as art, universal design, placemaking and citizen participation. Developing different strategies for using public space as an inclusive and learning environment.
I have focused on understanding how people genuinely engage in shaping the environment around them, especially the most vulnerable groups of people: children, women, the elderly, and people with disabilities. I believe that public spaces that are inclusive to all are a critical component in promoting participation in our lives in society.
